Alejandro Garnacho sends new message to Man United fans as Ten Hag makes Andre Onana decision
Alejandro Garnacho scored the opener against Galatasaray in Istanbul but Manchester United couldn’t hold onto all three points.
It was a confident finish from the man who scored an incredible overhead kick just three days earlier against Everton.
Garnacho smashed the ball into the roof of the net minutes before Bruno Fernandes doubled United’s lead.
However, a second-half comeback from Galatasaray ensured the spoils were shared and United are now left in a difficult position to qualify from their group.
Despite the capitulation being none of Garnacho’s doing, the winger has sent United supporters an apology on social media for the team’s display on Wednesday evening.
Sorry United fans,” wrote Garnacho. “This is the Champions League and we have to be aware of it and assume responsibilities.
“There is one game left and we will do everything possible.”
The Reds must win their final group match against Bayern Munich to have any chance of progression. They will also be hoping that the game between Galatasaray and Copenhagen ends in a draw.
Andre Onana will be feeling disappointed after his performance in Turkey. He was at fault for at least two of the three goals and it was not his first poor display in Europe this season.
But despite the external pressure on the goalkeeper, ESPN have reported that Erik ten Hag will continue to back Onana as his first-choice goalkeeper and still believes it was the right decision to bring him in after the departure of David De Gea last summer.
It was added that the United boss believes the benefits of signing the goalkeeper far outweigh the negatives because his style is better suited to the way the Dutchman wants his team to play.
Onana is set to continue in net for the upcoming clash against Newcastle in the Premier League.
