Alejandro Garnacho makes bold “best player in the world” claim amid Man United progression
Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has made his feelings clear about the current “best player in the world” after the latest Champions League fixtures.
Garnacho, 19, has emerged as a regular starter at United this season after his breakthrough campaign last term.
The Argentine was utilised as an impact substitute to great effect by Erik ten Hag last season. He started just 11 games in all competitions.
Ten Hag’s growing trust in the teenager, partly due to Marcus Rashford’s form, has been evident from his 37 starts so far this season. With nine goals and five assists, it’s been a solid second full season for Garnacho.
Garnacho’s bold claim
Without Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo in European football, there are more debates than ever about who is truly the best player in the world.
Harry Kane, Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe – among others – have all had the tag placed on them at some point or another this season.
However, Alejandro Garnacho has made his opinion clear after Real Madrid beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final.
Vinicius Jr helped the La Liga champions emerge victorious in difficult circumstances. It was his shot that Manuel Neuer failed to claim before Joselu hit the equalising goal in 87 minutes.
The Brazilian winger was awarded the Man of the Match award after completing seven take-ons in the game. He has five goals and five assists in the Champions League this term, with 21 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.
Following their progression to the Champions League final, Vinicius Jr posted on Instagram with the caption: “A POR LA 15!!!! LONDON!!!!”
Garnacho responded to the post with the message, “best player in the world”.

It is not the first time the two young wingers have praised each other. They swapped shirts during the pre-season tour game against Los Blancos last summer in the United States.
