Alan Shearer names “really impressive” Manchester United star who’s catching his eye
Alan Shearer has named the Manchester United star he finds “really impressive” following Erik ten Hag’s 2-1 win over Brentford.
Manchester United came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday, claiming all three points in a hard-fought contest.
Brentford struck first just before half-time, with Ethan Pinnock heading in from a corner. But United rallied in the second half, as Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Højlund both scored, aided by excellent assists from Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes.

Matthijs de Ligt impressed in defence, putting in a gritty performance despite suffering a head injury in the first half that left him bloodied.
The win moves United back into the top half of the Premier League table as they look to recover from their difficult start to the 2024/25 campaign.
Three big positives
Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day show following the result, Premier League all-time top scorer Alan Shearer had plenty to stay, explaining that he found the club’s front three a great trio.
“The positives today were, without a doubt, the front three in Garnacho, Rashford and Højlund,” Shearer said.
“I thought they more than played their part and were a constant threat for large parts of the game. They linked up well, getting their shots away at goal.”
Højlund’s impressive display
Further, Shearer went on to pinpoint Danish striker Højlund as a player that particularly impressed him and has been catching his eye.
“I thought Højlund was really impressive,” he continued. “A lot of times having to do the dirty work and holding defenders off. It allowed the other two to play a more forward role.”
“Højlund deserved this goal because of his work rate, the flick from Bruno [Fernandes] is sublime. But that is a really clever finish. Still got a lot to do.
“This will do wonders for his confidence, his first goal of the Premier League season, but that has to be on a regular basis now.”
