Manchester United look set to miss out on signing a “ridiculous” £38 million talent this summer after Paris St. Germain reportedly struck an agreement.
Manchester United’s summer rebuild is gathering momentum, with Rúben Amorim wasting no time in reshaping the squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelöf and Christian Eriksen will depart once their contracts expire, while Alejandro Garnacho has reportedly been told he can leave. Rasmus Højlund is also available for the right price as United listen to offers.
The club are looking to offload Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia, with over £100 million in potential sales expected to boost Amorim’s transfer budget.
Amorim is prioritising reinforcements in attacking and midfield areas, with a clear focus on adding technical quality, athleticism, and a more physical edge.
Determined to build a squad capable of meeting the demands of Premier League football, Amorim is being fully backed as United embark on one of their most ambitious rebuilds in over a decade.
United set to miss out on “ridiculous” talent
Earlier this window, it was reported that United were considering the potential signing of River Plate sensation Franco Mastantuono, a player with “ridiculous” abilities and potential, with technical director Jadon Wilcox keen on the signing.
However, United faced significant competition for the 17-year-old attacking midfielder, and if the latest reports are to be believed, Amorim’s team look likely to be missing out on the player.
According to TYC Sports, Ligue 1 side and newly crowned Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain struck an agreement on personal terms with the Argentine talent earlier this week.
The report states that, with River Plate not wanting to lose their crown jewel until the end of their season in December, PSG are willing to pay the £38 million release clause this summer, but will allow him to stay at River Plate until the end of the year.
United leaning toward older targets this summer
Although initial reports had stated that United were looking to sign young players who they could grow into elite talents at Old Trafford, the latest links have shown a change in position.
United are set to announce the signing of 26-year-old Matheus Cunha in the coming week or so, while they have also been keen on Brentford’s 25-year-old Bryan Mbeumo.
Although the club were targeting 22-year-old Liam Delap, they lost the race for his signature to Chelsea, and reports have stated Amorim would rather sign a more experienced striker to secure a higher probability of guaranteed goals after the struggles of Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
Although both Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyökeres are available on the market this summer, both players would cost a significant transfer fee, with the former also demanding an astronomical wage.
