Agent plans meeting with Man United as Erik ten Hag suffers setback ahead of Premier League opener
One agent has a meeting planned with Manchester United as Erik ten Hag has suffered a setback ahead of their Premier League opener.
The Reds are looking to make their final additions to Erik ten Hag’s squad in the coming weeks after securing the signings of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui this week.
Those two players followed on from Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee, who put pen to paper on deals earlier this summer, but United are now keen to bring in a midfielder.
It is no secret that Manuel Ugarte is the favourite for those at Old Trafford but a move stalled after PSG refused to budge on their valuation of the player.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Jorge Mendes, the PSG midfielder’s agent, is currently in England to discuss two potential deals, including Ugarte’s transfer to United.
Manchester World have since reported that the Old Trafford outfit are once again considering a move for the 23-year-old after initially stepping back due to his price tag.
It was explained that the French champions are keen to offload the Uruguayan international before the transfer window closes.
Yet, they will need to either reduce their £51 million asking price for the player or agree to an initial loan deal.
The report concluded that despite some obstacles remaining, there is increasing optimism that a deal could be struck between the two clubs.
Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag has suffered a setback ahead of United’s Premier League opener against Fulham this Friday.
This week, it was confirmed that Luke Shaw has suffered a calf injury and will be unavailable until after the September international break.
That rules him out of the game against Fulham, as well as the two following clashes against Brighton and Liverpool.
Ten Hag has no fit senior left-backs in his squad and will likely need to deputise Mazraoui on the left side of the defence.
