Fabrizio Romano has issued another ‘very positive’ update on Manchester United’s pursuit of Wolves star Matheus Cunha.
Manchester United have identified Wolves forward Matheus Cunha as a top target for the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Brazilian attacker, who has impressed with 15 goals and six assists in 31 Premier League appearances this season, would represent a clear upgrade on Ruben Amorim’s current attacking options.
Reports indicate that a deal between Cunha and United is nearing completion, with the club prepared to trigger the £62.5 million release clause in his contract.
With Cunha expected to leave Wolves at the end of the season, United have emerged as the frontrunners to secure his signature.
Fabrizio Romano delivers important Cunha update
The rumours surrounding Cunha have gone quiet in recent weeks, which has led to some concerns about the deal as there are clearly other interested parties.
However, Fabrizio Romano has calmed fans down with his latest comments on the player, stating that the situation remains the same and that there are ‘very good conversations’ ongoing between United and Cunha’s team.
“I’m receiving many questions from Manchester United fans. What’s going on with Cunha? What’s going on with Cunha?” the Italian journalist said on his YouTube channel.
“Guys, the situation is exactly the same as I told you a few days, 10 days ago. Man Utd are in very positive talks with Matheus Cunha, very good conversations, discussing the details of the agreement with the player.
“And then they will be able to meet Wolves and find a solution on the payment structure for the release clause. But Man Utd want to go for Matheus Cunha, the conversation is ongoing, so relax.
“Let the club work, and then, when the time will be right, I will let you know the final steps of this story.
“But Man Utd absolutely remain in conversations, active conversations, for the Matheus Cunha deal. Nothing has changed, and the exchange between Cunha and Man Utd remains absolutely positive.”
United trying to get early summer deals
United are planning for several early transfers in this window and it still seems like Cunha is on track to be signed in the opening weeks of the summer.
There have also been recent developments for the Liam Delap deal – if United can bring them both in early on in the window then it will be a good start.

After that, you would imagine that the speed of any more signings depends on how quickly the Reds can sell some of their unwanted players.
Once again, United need to show major improvements in terms of the way they get sales over the line. That will be crucial for the summer window.
