One Manchester United star has been labelled as the ‘biggest loser’ of Ruben Amorim’s change in formation after defeat to Crystal Palace.

Manchester United lost 2-0 against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon after a disappointing performance from Ruben Amorim’s side.

The Portuguese boss decided against starting a recognised striker, with Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee on the bench.

Kobbie Mainoo played as a false-nine and had a good start to the game, hitting the post early on, but the teenager faded as the game went on.

United were the stronger side to start with but Palace constantly offered threat on the break and eventually got their rewards in the second half.

Jean-Philippe Mateta scored two second-half goals – equalising Hojlund’s record in the Premier League this season – to win the game for the visitors.

Dalot produces poor display vs Palace

Before the game, Patrick Dorgu was announced as a new United player and took to the Old Trafford pitch alongside Ayden Heaven to be presented to the fans.

It was clear that Amorim needed a wingback before the game against Palace and even more obvious afterwards following the performance of Diogo Dalot.

The United defender produced another poor display at left wingback, losing nine duels and making two fouls across the 90 minutes.

Once again Dalot had many chances to create something on the left flank in the attacking half but he was unable to make anything from it.

He was named as the club’s Player of the Year last term playing as a natural fullback but this change in formation does not suit him, with one supporter labelling the Portuguese international as one of the “biggest losers” of the new system.

Dorgu has been labelled as an attacking-minded wingback and he will have no trouble getting into this current United side if he can provide any sort of quality in the final third.

Amorim’s biggest mistake has been with the wingbacks

Amorim has come into a really difficult situation at Old Trafford and many issues on display are not his fault.

However, one thing that seems to be a trend is that United do not play well when two fullbacks play as those wingbacks in his system.

But it is something that he continues to do on a regular occasion and it has to change with Dorgu coming into the squad.

Noussair Mazraoui is also a much better option in the back three and there needs to be more threat coming from the wide areas.
