68 touches, 10 duels won – Manchester United star sends response to Ruben Amorim vs Leicester City
One Manchester United star has sent a response to incoming head coach Ruben Amorim with his performance against Leicester City.
Manchester United claimed a convincing win at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, edging them closer to the Premier League’s top four.
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side looked strong throughout and rarely seemed troubled by Leicester City. Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring with a brilliant long-range strike after a clever back-heeled assist from Amad Diallo.
The club captain then helped double United’s lead with a header in the box, though it was ultimately ruled as an own-goal by Victor Kristiansen.
Alejandro Garnacho sealed the victory for the hosts with a superb shot into the top corner late in the second half.
Under Van Nistelrooy’s interim leadership, United won three games and drew one, providing incoming manager Ruben Amorim a solid platform to build upon.
Ugarte delivers best United performance
Manuel Ugarte has had a difficult start to life at Old Trafford but produced his best performance of the season against The Foxes.
Ugarte was much more comfortable on the ball in this game, which had been a concern amongst the fanbase in his opening games.
He had 68 touches and completed 46 of his 50 attempted passes, which included a line-breaking pass to Noussair Mazraoui in the build-up to United’s opener.
He was also extremely busy out of possession as many fans expected him to be when signed in the summer.
With six tackles completed and 10 duels won, Ugarte had his best game for the club so far.
Amorim’s message to Ugarte
That follows on from Amorim addressing his reunion with Ugarte, who he managed at Sporting between 2021 and 2023.
Speaking to TNT Sports on Friday, Amorim said: “All the Uruguayans I managed are incredible and that’s why I love all Uruguayans.
“Ugarte is a very talented boy and has a lot of room to grow. I am very happy to know that I have him back at Manchester United!”
