11 Manchester United Academy stars tipped to join Rúben Amorim for pre-season as Chido Obi decision hangs in the balance

Eleven of Manchester United’s Academy stars have been tipped to join Rúben Amorim’s squad for their pre-season tour ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

While Manchester United’s season is reaching a climax ahead of their Europa League semi-final clash against Athletic Club, half an eye is on their preparations for the 2025/26 campaign.

As for the transfer market, the club are closing in on signing Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a £62.5 million deal, while they are also chasing the £30 million transfer of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, but face fierce competition from Chelsea.

Elsewhere, the club are also putting plans together for their 2025 pre-season tour as Rúben Amorim gets his first period of settled training and time to work on implementing the more complex aspects of his 3-4-3 formation.

Currently, United have scheduled four fixtures for the summer. They will face Leeds United in Stockholm on 19 July before flying to the United States to play West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton, with more fixtures expected to be added before the Premier League restarts on the weekend of 16 August.

11 Academy stars tipped to travel on pre-season

While pre-season is always a time when managers can spend significant periods with their squads and bed in new signings, it is also a period when fans gain unique insights into Academy players who may break through for the next campaign.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United have already started planning which youngsters will be part of Amorim’s squad for the trip to Sweden and the US.

Jason Wilcox, Darren Fletcher, Nick Cox, Travis Binnion, and Adam Lawrence have engaged in discussions regarding which youngsters are progressing toward the first team and will provide feedback to Amorim ahead of selection decisions.

In the piece, 11 Academy players are mentioned as prospects who may well travel with the rest of the squad. Chido Obi, Tyler Fredricson, and Harry Amass are three players who are almost certain to make the list after their appearances under Amorim so far.

Aside from this trio, a further eight are mentioned. Jaydan Kamason, Godwill Kukonki, Jack Moorhouse, Jack Fletcher, Jayce Fitzgerald, Gabriele Biancheri, Bendito Mantato and James Scanlon are in contention for selection after training with the first team of late.

Obi may not travel to Sweden with United

Although Obi is likely to be with the squad for the USA section of the tour, there is a chance he may be rested when the side flies to Stockholm to face Leeds.

Despite being just 17, Obi was selected for the most recent set of internationals with the Denmark U21 national side. With the U21 European Championships set to take place this summer, there is a solid chance the United starlet may be part of the squad.

The competition is set to take place between 11 and 28 June, and with United no doubt looking to give their players a good number of weeks of rest before pre-season, Obi’s potential inclusion in the competition could see the club hand him extra rest.

Should this happen, Obi may then instead fly directly to the USA to meet the rest of the squad on the East Coast.
