Jadon Sancho has made his intentions clear to Manchester United as the club looks to offload him for the third time in two years.
In the final days of the 2024 summer transfer window, Jadon Sancho left Manchester United to join Chelsea on a season-long loan.
The deal included a clause obligating Chelsea to make the move permanent in summer 2025 for £25 million, though they could opt out by paying a £5 million release fee.
Sancho, previously frozen out by Erik ten Hag and loaned to Borussia Dortmund, was reintegrated into the United squad in July 2024. However, doubts over his future remained, leading to his departure.
At Chelsea, Sancho made 41 appearances, scoring five goals and providing ten assists, including a fine strike in the Europa Conference League final against Real Betis. Ultimately, the club declined to sign him permanently and paid the £5 million fee to end the deal.
Sancho informs United of his plans with six-word message
United’s biggest obstacle surrounding offloading their outcast players this summer is not the fees, but the wages the players are demanding. The fees United want for Sancho, Antony, and Marcus Rashford are reasonable, but their wage packages are proving to be a problem.
While reports have suggested that Antony is willing to take a wage cut of up to 30% to facilitate a permanent move to Real Betis this summer, Sancho has stood firm on not wanting any drop in wages.
According to TBR Football, Sancho has explicitly told his parent club that ‘you have to cover my wages’ if he were to leave the club on either a loan or permanent transfer this summer.
However, this demand seems somewhat tone deaf considering that Sancho has failed to justify such an extortionate salary since his 2021 transfer to United.
TBR further clarifies that United are firm in their stance that they do not want to subsidise any of his wages once he moves on this summer, given that they are already taking a hit by selling him for less than £30 million. Sancho is on a weekly wage package of over £300,000 at United.
Swap deal for ‘world-class’ star could be on the cards
With United wanting Sancho off their books as soon as possible, the player is generating interest from the Serie A. However, his wages are already becoming an issue, with Napoli’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, stating: “Our offer is clear, we will not pay Sancho’s requested salary.”
If Sancho were to refuse to take the step to move to the current Serie A holders, it may become the case that he could sign for Juventus instead.
According to reports from Italy, Juventus are open to offering United their Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic, valued at around £25 million, in exchange for Sancho. However, Amorim’s club are not thought to be too keen on the 25-year-old.
Instead, it may become the case that the club resume talks with Juventus surrodnign their outcast midfielder Douglas Luiz, formerly of Aston Villa.
The “world-class” midfielder is seeking a move back to the Premier League this summer, and United engaged in negotiations with Juventus earlier this month regarding a possible swap deal that would see Antony head the other way.
However, these negotiations broke down once the Italian side’s former sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, was sacked, but could reignite if Juventus press ahead with their pursuit of Sancho.
