Wout Weghorst is flying to Manchester on Thursday after Manchester United agreed a loan termination fee with Besiktas for the Burnley forward.

That’s according to various reliable reports, including The Athletic and Fabrizio Romano, who added that the fee for the termination is set at £2.5 million.

It was also said by Romano that the Dutchman will make a flight to England on Thursday in order to under medical tests and then sign his loan contract with United.

This comes shortly after a 3-0 win in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals for The Reds, who played Anthony Elanga as a makeshift centre-forward whilst Antony Martial was rested.

It’s clear that United are in need of another natural number nine, especially with their upcoming fixture list.

Premier League games against Manchester City, Crystal Palace and Arsenal are on the horizon and Weghorst will be needed for Erik ten Hag to handle the workload and have the best chance of getting positive results.

In order to be registered in time for the Manchester Derby on Saturday afternoon, Weghorst will need to be registered by midday on Friday. However, there are different variables for Weghorst and United before any registration could be made.

Former United coach, Rene Meulensteen, believes that this is a positive loan deal for Ten Hag.

“Ten Hag knows what he is doing, for sure,” he told BBC Sport.

“He is 30 years old so it is a stop-gap because of the ongoing rumours with the takeover of new owners. That is probably the reason Ten Hag is being forced to do loan deals.

“He needs to do something in the transfer window though, so in this case it’s better to go with someone you know.

“It is not one for the long term but it is somebody who can do a job for them in the short term, especially in the latter stages of a game when they need to force something.”
