Newly-crowned La Liga champions Barcelona are looking to sign Marcus Rashford this summer after Lamine Yamal has requested to play with the Manchester United winger.
According to Spanish outlet El Nacional, Marcus Rashford’s ‘absolute priority’ is to wear the Barcelona shirt next season.
It has already been reported that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are looking to sell many players this summer, with Rashford’s exit from Manchester United almost certain.
Before his January loan move to Aston Villa, the 27-year-old had already expressed interest in a summer move to Barcelona, but no deal had been made.
This season, however, the former Carrington youth player has had his career reignited at Villa, inspiring the Spanish giants to pursue him again amid Rúben Amorim’s need for fresh transfer funds.
Barcelona ready to do what it takes to sign Rashford
According to the same report, Rashford believes that the Catalonian club’s style of play suits his characteristics nicely, with a strong emphasis on pace, dribbling and having the ability to link up with other players.
Unfortunately, the club are in a rather sticky situation financially, with the club likely being unable to afford a straight transfer for the attacker.
However, they would be able to acquire the player through a loan with an option to buy, so long as United gives them the green light to do so.
Rashford has been approached by several Premier League clubs, but it is understood that he has prioritised Barca. His entourage has reportedly expressed direct interest in playing at the Camp Nou.
Yamal wants to play with Rashford at Barcelona
Lamine Yamal is one of the world’s hottest prospects right now, so an endorsement from the Spanish sensation is worth its weight in gold.
When asked informally by coaching staff how he would feel about Rashford joining, his response was that he ‘loves the idea’, allegedly stating that the two can ‘complement each other very well.’
He would value the Englishman’s experience, which could free up some of the squad’s younger players in important matches. This could potentially mean the Spanish side could gear up for another trophy-winning season.
Head coach Hansi Flick is also feeling positive about the move, believing the attacker could ‘fit in well if he arrives motivated and with a clear role.’
With Yamal’s blessing, Flick’s interest, and the player’s clear commitment to joining, this seems like a transfer that is destined to happen.
The only snag will be the financial side, but if a loan deal can materialise, we could see Rashford in Barcelona’s blue and red next season.
