Who will Manchester United face on either side of their Champions League fixtures?
Manchester United will be welcomed back to the Champions League for the 2023/24 campaign after finishing third in last season’s Premier League competition.
The Premier League announced their 2023/24 fixture list, with Manchester United set to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on the opening game week of the season.
However, this will not be the only schedule that Erik ten Hag will need to consider during his squad’s season – the fixtures that surround the Champions League group stage games will be crucial.

Here is a full breakdown of the games either side of the group stage fixtures:
Matchday 1 – September 19/20
Manchester United will kick off their Champions League campaign towards the end of September, with this fixture being sandwiched in between a visit from Brighton on 16 September and a trip away to Burnley on 23 September.
Matchday 2 – October 3/4
Matchday 2 of the Champions League season commences two weeks later, with it being the opening fixture of United’s October schedule.
Ten Hag’s men are set to take on Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on 30 September just before the European tie, and welcome Brentford to the famous group on 8 October.
Matchday 3 – October 24/25
Before the third Champions League group game of the season, the club will travel to newly-promoted Sheffield United on 21 October
However, the fixture after is a very significant one – Manchester United will welcome current champions and bitter rivals Manchester City to Old Trafford on 28 October
Matchday 4 – November 7/8
Matchday 4 of the 2023/24 Champions League campaign has been planted towards the beginning of November. United will face Fulham on 4 November, and travel to Luton Town on 11 November.
Matchday 5 – November 28/29
With the penultimate game of the group stage coming at the end of the month, United will have to travel to Liverpool to face Everton on 25 November before the European tie and get back on the road, up to Newcastle in time for 2 December.
Matchday 6 – December 12/13
The climax of the Champions League group stage comes in the middle of England’s festive fixtures.
United welcome Bournemouth to Old Trafford on 9 December prior to the mid-week tie and will travel back to Liverpool to face Jurgen Klopp’s men at Anfield on 16 December.
