When Patrick Dorgu will make Manchester United debut after £24m transfer agreement
Patrick Dorgu is expected to complete his £24 million move to Manchester United soon and Ruben Amorim will be keen to introduce him to the squad.
Manchester United have been targeting a new left wing-back in the January transfer window as Ruben Amorim’s time at the club has been difficult so far.
Injuries have left United short in this area. Luke Shaw has struggled with recurring issues while Tyrell Malacia has only just returned from a 17-month knee injury himself.
In their absence, Diogo Dalot has filled in at left-back, but the Portuguese defender does not suit the role on the left, making a reinforcement there a priority.
Patrick Dorgu of Lecce quickly became the standout target for United after the 20-year-old blew away club scouts who watched him.
The Danish international can play in multiple positions and is an attacking-minded player, making him the perfect fit for the wingback role under Amorim.
Reports from Gianluca Di Marzio have revealed that an agreement has been reached for the transfer of Dorgu for an initial £24 million, with a further £6 million in add-ons.
When Dorgu could make United debut
With a move set to be complete in the coming days, United fans will be eager to know when they can see Dorgu for the first time.
United have a busy schedule, with six games between now and the end of February – that number could increase through progression in the cup competitions.
Dorgu will not be signed in time to face FCSB on Thursday evening, a game which United have to win in order to secure automatic qualification to the Europa League knockout stages.
United will then face Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday, 2 February – the day before the mid-season window closes this year.
While it would be expected that Dorgu’s move has been announced at that point, it can not be ruled out that the deal becomes official on deadline day.
And even if Dorgu does join the club beforehand, he will have minimal time in training, making an inclusion against Palace extremely unlikely.
Instead, it seems like the FA Cup clash against Leicester City on Friday, 7 February will be the perfect opportunity for Dorgu to make his United debut, with enough time in training beforehand to be prepared for the clash.
It is also a good game to be eased into, with Leicester City not being one of the most threatening teams around, before a potential Premier League debut away at Tottenham Hotspur the following weekend.

That game could be majorly important for United as they try to improve their form in the league after a dismal first half of the season.
