Matheus Cunha is finally a Manchester United player and the Brazilian forward has spoken in his first interview to club media.
Manchester United officially completed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves on Thursday afternoon in a deal worth £62.5 million.
The Brazilian forward becomes Ruben Amorim’s first acquisition of the summer and a central figure in United’s push to revamp their squad in the transfer window, having signed a five-year contract.
Cunha is seen as a significant upgrade to an attack that has lacked consistency and cutting edge over the last couple of seasons.
Known for his power, intelligent movement and versatility across the front line, he is expected to inject greater dynamism and unpredictability into United’s offensive play.
The 26-year-old has stated that it is a ‘dream’ to join United while Jason Wilcox added that the signing of Cunha was a ‘main priority’ for the club this summer.
When Cunha’s first United interview will be released
United initially announced that an agreement had been reached with Wolves for this transfer a couple of weeks ago but supporters have had to wait to see Cunha in red.
After being announced on the same day as the 2025/26 home kit launch, many fans are now eager to see what Cunha has to say after his arrival.
United’s new first-team signings will always have an interview with the club’s media channel MUTV shortly after being announced and Cunha is no different.
The Reds have confirmed that the Brazilian has already sat down and spoke with former United player Danny Webber to reflect on the move and that will be available to watch on the club’s app and website from 16:00 BST on Friday 13 June.
Cunha will undoubtably be asked about his new teammates and head coach, as well as how he grew up supporting the Reds from afar.
What United said about Cunha’s kit number
Interestingly, in the same article on United’s website, they also spoke about Cunha’s shirt number at Old Trafford and suggested that confirmation will not be coming soon.
Cunha is reportedly set to take the no.10 shirt at Old Trafford from Marcus Rashford, who is likely to leave the club, but the club have suggested themselves that any kind of announcement will be in the coming weeks.
“Naturally, fans are eager to know: which number will Matheus wear? For now, we’ll all have to wait. His squad slot won’t be revealed yet,” the club wrote on their website.
“So, which number will it be at United? Well, that’s still under wraps. We hope to find out in the coming weeks, with United’s players set to return from the summer break in July.”

Cunha will be at Carrington from the first day of pre-season and any announcement about his shirt number will more than likely come before that point.
