When Manchester United will find out if Benjamin Šeško can start vs Arsenal as Rúben Amorim details training plan

Manchester United will soon find out if Benjamin Šeško can start against Arsenal as Rúben Amorim details this week’s training plan.

After a five-match pre-season across Sweden, the United States, and at Old Trafford, Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United are set to kick off their 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

The Reds claimed wins over West Ham and Bournemouth, while drawing with Leeds United, Everton, and Fiorentina — the latter settled by a penalty shootout triumph to lift the Snapdragon Cup and complete an unbeaten tour.

Attention now shifts to Sunday, 17 August, when Arsenal visit Old Trafford for the season’s curtain-raiser.

The clash promises several debut appearances, with Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo expected to feature for United, while Viktor Gyökeres, Martin Zubimendi, and Noni Madueke could make their first competitive outings for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Amorim explain’s this week’s training plan

With pre-season finished and the 2025/26 competitive campaign among us, Amorim has a full week to prepare for the blockbuster Arsenal tie at Old Trafford.

United have welcomed André Onana and Joshua Zirkzee back to full training, and new striker signing Šeško has been playing with his teammates ahead of his debut.

Following United’s penalty shootout victory against Fiorentina, Amorim explained that all his players, including Šeško, will go through two “really strong” sessions on the field before having a day off, then taking two days to prepare for the Arsenal tie.

“It’s going to be tough because we tried to arrange a full week of training,” Amorim explained. We are going to have two really strong sessions with time to work, and then we are going to break for a little bit, and then two days to really think about the strategy for the game, and we will be ready.”

When United will find out if Šeško can start

Amorim will have the full week to assess Šeško’s feasibility and fitness ahead of selecting his side to face Arsenal. Šeško has undergone pre-season with RB Leipzig before his move to United, and featured in two of their pre-season friendlies.

However, with Zirkzee also back in the mix for the striker position and Mason Mount putting in a positive performance as a makeshift striker last weekend, Amorim has to decide if he wants to throw his new striker signing straight into the team.

With all of the above sessions described by Amorim due to take place before Friday, United will likely find out if the head coach feels Šeško could start when he takes his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

Although an official announcement on the starting XIs for the tie will not be made until 15:15 BST on Sunday, Amorim may give a good indication of his thought process when questioned on Šeško on Friday.
