Ruben Amorim has been sacked as the head coach of Manchester United following poor results and a breakdown in communication.
Manchester United faced rivals Leeds in the Premier League on the weekend and failed to take three points from the game.
With just one win in their last five games, the Reds have not been in great form but are still sixth in the Premier League table.
Ruben Amorim had reportedly been under pressure internally to change his system and decided to go on a rant after the game at Elland Road where he claimed that he was the manager, and not the head coach.
This power struggle with the likes of Jason Wilcox, who Amorim also told to focus on his own job, has led to the sacking of the Portuguese boss.
When United will appoint Amorim’s replacement
It has been confirmed by the club that Darren Fletcher will take charge of the upcoming game against Burnley. He has been working as the Under-18s manager this season.
When United sacked Erik ten Hag last term, they decided to move quickly for Amorim to appoint him mid-season but they could make a different decision when looking for their next permanent boss.
According to David Ornstein, a permanent appointment as manager is likely to be delayed until the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
This would mean that Fletcher, or another interim manager, will spend the rest of the season in charge and trying to push United towards the top four spots.
United must make the right decision
There are always concerns when teams put interim managers in place for a longer period of time because it can often feel like wasted time.
Ralf Rangnick was in charge at Old Trafford for the second half of the 2021/22 campaign and that was how it felt for many fans.
But at the same time, United cannot afford to make a mistake with their managerial choice and there will be better options on the market in the summer.
Right now, if they make a reactionary decision based on who is available right now, they could be in the same position in 18 months time.
