Manchester United are yet to confirm their official squad number list for the 2023/24 season, releasing only “provisional” numbers.

This was due to the fact that Erik ten Hag’s squad were yet to undergo further changes as the transfer window came to a close.

The Manchester United players who have caused the most interest with their potential new numbers are academy player Alejandro Garnacho and new striker Rasmus Højlund.

On the provisional list, Garnacho was still listed as No. 49, but the club stressed that this could change.

“There could be changes after the end of the transfer window on 1 September,” the club said in a statement three weeks ago.

With the transfer deadline day finishing at 11pm (UK time) on Friday evening, Manchester United will announce their squad number list after their actual squads have been confirmed.

However, with the club playing Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, the club will almost certainly need to confirm the new numbers before the tie – making Saturday the most likely date for an announcement to occur.

Rasmus Højlund is expected to make his debut for the club against Arsenal, and many have predicted that he will take the No. 11 shirt after it was confirmed that Alejandro Garnacho will don the No. 17 for the rest of the campaign.

The club are also due to announce a squad number for new goalkeeper signing Altay Bayındır and left-back Sergio Reguilón, as well as Sofyan Amrabat if the deal is completed in time.
