Manchester United are set to send Antony on loan to Spanish side Real Betis in the January transfer window.

Antony, 24, has had a difficult time since joining Manchester United in the summer of 2022 for a extraordinary £85 million from Ajax.

The Brazilian winger struggled to adapt to the Premier League and has managed to score five goals in the competition since his arrival.

After it was confirmed that Erik ten Hag would be leaving the club earlier this year, many believed that Antony would be out of the door soon afterwards.

Ruben Amorim has tried to utilise the player but it has become clear that a loan exit, to allow him to get more game-time, is the best option.

United close to agreeing Antony loan to Betis

Real Betis have made a second offer for Antony on loan and there is confidence that they will get a deal over the line for the winger.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the La Liga outfit are closing in on reaching an agreement with United, who are set to pay part of the Brazilian’s salary.

He explained that the final details of the contract are being discussed, with there being no option-to-buy clause included in the deal.

United will instead be hoping to reassess in the summer, with the ideal situation being that Antony has increased his transfer value through consistent performances in Spain.

When Antony will make Betis debut

Antony will be eager to get started at Betis and it appears that a move could be completed in the coming days.

That may give him the opportunity to make his debut in La Liga next weekend, with Betis’ next game being against Mallorca on Saturday, 25 January.

If that game comes too soon, Antony would likely be able to feature in their following game, which comes after the mid-season transfer window ends, against Athletic Club on Sunday, 2 February.

The 24-year-old could be one of several first-team players to be sent on loan this month, with Marcus Rashford and Tyrell Malacia also heavily linked with temporary exits.
