Manchester United have reportedly made a move for a “ruthless” star amid submitting a second bid for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
Manchester United are on the verge of securing their second signing of the summer, with a move for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo now close to completion.
Rúben Amorim is determined to bolster his forward line after landing Matheus Cunha earlier this month, although negotiations for Mbeumo have been challenging.
An opening £55 million bid for the 25-year-old was rejected at the start of June, but United returned this week with an improved offer exceeding £60 million, which they are optimistic will be accepted.
Once Mbeumo links up with Cunha at Old Trafford, United plan to offload several players and push ahead with efforts to sign both a striker and a midfielder before the Premier League campaign begins in mid-August.
Mbeumo transfer set to trigger multiple other transfers
Mbeumo has been of interest to not just United but also Newcastle, Tottenham, and Arsenal, although all three clubs are having to move onto other targets with the Cameroon international making it clear he only wants to sign for United.
Former United chief scout Mick Brown has explained that Mbeumo’s move to United will trigger a flurry of other transfers. United are expected to quickly move on to signing other targets, such as a striker.
“There’s been plenty of speculation about Mbeumo,” Brown told Football Insider.
“I understand that you have to expect people are going to speculate because there’s not a lot of concrete news coming out about the situation. I think in the coming days and weeks, something will happen and it’ll trigger a lot of other moves.
“Tottenham have come into the picture for Mbeumo since they appointed Frank as their manager. They obviously have a close relationship, so it comes as no surprise that they’re interested.
“But United have been speaking to him behind closed doors, and they’re really pushing to reach an agreement with Brentford because he’s the one they want. From what I’m led to believe, he wants to join Man United, so that should make things easier.
“I think there is confidence they can agree a deal, obviously it will depend on the price tag, but I wouldn’t be overly concerned just because things have gone quiet. They’re still working hard to get it done.”
United have already made a move for “ruthless” Kean
Fabrizio Romano explained earlier this week that United are still looking to sign a No. 9 this summer in addition to Cunha and Mbeumo, as the club are in desperate need of goals.
With Liam Delap signing for Chelsea and Viktor Gyökeres reportedly favouring a move to Arsenal, United have had to get creative with their striker targets. According to Italian transfer specialist Gianluca di Marzio, United inquired about Fiorentina striker Moise Kean on Saturday.
Further, La Gazzetta dello Sport have clarified that United have been keeping a close eye on the 25-year-old who enjoyed a “ruthless” campaign, scoring 25 goals across all competitions.
The Gazetta dello Sport report further claims that United are considering paying the striker’s £45 million release clause, which is only active between 1st and 15th June.
However, the player has also had a monster offer from the Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah, who have handed him a formal contract proposal of around £13 million per season on a three-year deal.
