What Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s new Man Utd investment means for Rúben Amorim in January
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has provided further investment into Manchester United which has led to questions about Ruben Amorim’s activity in the January transfer market.
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has gotten off to a decent start at Old Trafford, winning four of his first seven games in charge.
Improvements are coming but additions are needed in upcoming transfer windows for the team to reach their full potential under Amorim.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS group took charge at Old Trafford earlier this year, paying around £1.2 billion for 27.7 per cent of the club.
While the British billionaire only became a minority shareholder, agreements were in place for him and his team to take complete control of footballing operations.
That is exactly what has happened, with Ratcliffe and his team making some big and controversial decisions – most recently getting rid of Dan Ashworth as sporting director just a matter of months after bringing him into the club themselves.
What Ratcliffe’s investment means for Amorim in January
Now, reports from MailSport have detailed that Ratcliffe has made further investments and increased his stake in the club.
United’s co-owner has injected a further £79 million and a raise in shareholding to 28.94 per cent. Interestingly, it was also noted that he has changed ownership of his involvement at Old Trafford to his INEOS company.
With an extra £79 million in the bank ahead of the January transfer window, some are wondering if the British billionaire is planning to make some signings for Amorim’s side.
However, the aforementioned report clarifies that the investment is not planned to be used on transfers in the mid-season window. Therefore, the new cash from Ratcliffe will have little impact on Amorim.
Instead, it has been earmarked for infrastructure which will be used across the club. Work have already started on improvements to the Carrington training complex.
The Old Trafford task force have also held a final meeting recently, with a decision on whether to revamp or rebuild the iconic stadium set to come in the summer of 2025.
United may still be active in January, with reports suggesting a move for a left wingback could be made. Sales could be needed for that to occur, however.
