What Royal Antwerp told Senne Lammens this weekend, Manchester United will be very pleased

Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens is going to become Manchester United’s fourth major signing of the summer transfer window in the coming days.

Manchester United are closing in on the signing of 23-year-old goalkeeper Senne Lammens as they look to strengthen their options between the posts.

Tom Heaton has penned a one-year extension, while André Onana is set to continue as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper heading into the new season.

Lammens’ arrival, however, could spell the end for Altay Bayındır at Old Trafford, with the Turkish international’s mistake against Arsenal last weekend adding to the uncertainty over his future.

Currently at Royal Antwerp in the Belgian Pro League, Lammens is regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young goalkeepers. He is expected to provide immediate backup to Onana, with the long-term aim of competing for the No.1 role.

What Royal Antwerp told Lammens this weekend

The biggest hint yet for Lammens’ potential arrival at Old Trafford came on Sunday afternoon when it was confirmed that he had been left out of Royal Antwerp’s squad for their clash with Mechelen. He was present in the stands at the game.

Surprisingly, it has emerged that this wasn’t the decision of the goalkeeper, who wanted to play the game, but instead the Belgian club.

Reports from MailSport have revealed that Antwerp need the money they will get from the deal with United and told Lammens that they don’t want to jeopardise his move in case of an injury.

United are reportedly set to pay around £16 million plus add-ons for Lammens, which would become the Belgian club’s most expensive sale in their history.

United will be pleased with Antwerp’s stance

United will certainly be pleased that Antwerp have taken this stance and it is probably what has allowed a deal to materialise fairly quickly.

After going through difficulties with the likes of Brentford and RB Leipzig for the signings of Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško, United’s chiefs are probably enjoying a much simpler deal for Lammens.

The young shot-stopper should be able to provide stronger competition to Onana, who has not been able to provide consistent form since arriving at Old Trafford.

Bayındır has failed to take his chances when called upon but some reports are suggesting that he might not be sold this summer even with Lammens arriving.
