Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee started for the Netherlands during their 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Nations League.

Joshua Zirkzee failed to make a significant impact as the Netherlands dropped two more points in their Nations League group.

That leaves them five points away from Group B leaders Germany and there was criticism coming from all angles after the game.

Manchester United striker Zirkzee has had a difficult season so far, scoring just once for his new club. Since his debut winner, the forward has played 16 games for United without scoring.

Zirkzee played 77 minutes for his country before being substituted on Tuesday evening. The 23-year-old had just one blocked shot and failed to create any chances.

Dutch boss Ronald Koeman bluntly refused to go into details when asked about the United forward’s performance after the game.

“My thoughts on Zirkzee’s performance? I am not going to talk about individual player performances,” the former Everton and Barcelona manager sighed.

Dutch media described the forward as being ‘lost’ in the game and Koeman’s lack of support for the player speaks volumes about his current situation.

At Old Trafford, Zirkzee has a new manager to impress and has to turn his form around to have a chance at a long-term future under Ruben Amorim.

Koeman has previously come to the defence of the player, who clearly has bundles of talent as shown from his time at Bologna.

Yet, you can’t continue to prop someone up when they aren’t really showing much in their performances, and that has been the case at United as well.

Zirkzee doesn’t need to start scoring wondergoals every weekend, but he must start showcasing much more to the fans and new boss Amorim in the coming weeks and months.
