What Napoli now think about Rasmus Højlund buy option after form drop, Man Utd will be listening

Napoli’s thoughts on Rasmus Højlund’s buy option have been revealed following a sudden drop in form. Manchester United will be listening.

Over the course of the summer transfer window, Manchester United parted ways with several of their attacking stars, with some leaving permanently and others leaving on loan.

These exits came as a result of an incredibly poor season for Ruben Amorim’s side in front of goal, as the Reds only managed to score 44 goals in their 38 Premier League games.

The likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško were brought in to replace the United departees, and the trio have enjoyed the early stages of their lives at Old Trafford.

Of those who left on loan, Rasmus Højlund joined Napoli, with Gli Azzurri having an option to buy the Danish striker once his year at the club is finished.

Napoli’s thoughts on Højlund

As revealed by The Athletic, Antonio Conte’s side are still happy with their new striker, despite his recent drop in form as well as his recent knocks during the international break.

The Danish international hit the ground running in Naples, although despite his debut goal, he has only managed to find the net three times since.

If Napoli qualify for the Champions League next season, then they will be obliged to sign Højlund permanently for a fee of £38 million.

As things stand, despite only four points from nine in November, Conte’s side sit third in the table on 25 points. They will be hoping to pick up form once Romelu Lukaku returns from injury.

United’s chance to reinvest

If the move for Højlund was to be made permanent in the summer, then this would provide Amorim’s side with an extra £38million to reinvest into their squad.

United look to have their sights set on both a new midfielder as well as a new central defender, and given the prices being quoted for some of their targets, they could most definitely do with some additional capital.

It could also be a possibility that Marcus Rashford joins Barcelona in the summer for a fee in the region of £26million, which would further allow them to improve their squad.

Hopefully for Højlund, as well as United, the Dane can help his side to keep their place in the top four of Italy, as both parties will be keen on starting a new chapter.
