What Jason Wilcox said about Amad Diallo after Manchester United contract extension
Manchester United confirmed Amad Diallo’s five-year contract extension on Thursday evening after a strong start to life under Ruben Amorim.
Amid an otherwise underwhelming season for Manchester United, Amad Diallo has been a standout performer.
The Ivorian broke into the first team late last season under Erik ten Hag and carried that form into the current campaign, winning United’s Player of the Month award for August.
However, despite his strong start, he was soon relegated to the bench and only regained consistent playing time after Ruben Amorim’s appointment in November.
Since Amorim took charge, Amad has featured in all 12 matches, starting nine of them and contributing directly to eight goals, consistently standing out as one of the team’s top performers.
What Wilcox said after Amad signed new United contract
Amad put pen to paper on a new deal at Old Trafford on Thursday, keeping him at the club until June 2030.
The Ivorian was joined by the club’s technical director Jason Wilcox at Old Trafford. Wilcox has taken on more responsibility since Dan Ashworth’s exit.
Speaking to club media after the 22-year-old signed new terms, the United chief was extremely complimetary of a player he believes has ‘ immense potential’.
“Everyone is delighted with Amad’s development,” Wilcox said. “His quality on the ball, versatility and determination makes him a key part of the future of Manchester United.
“The best years of his career are ahead of him, and we all look forward to helping Amad to reach his immense potential and achieve success at the club in the coming seasons.”
How much is Amad earning at United now?
Amad had just six months remaining on his prior contract at Old Trafford and was earning approximately £30,000-per-week.
According to journalist Graeme Bailey, as per UnitedInFocus, the attacking player’s new terms have increased his weekly wages to £120,000-per-week.
This signifies Amad’s new-found importance to Amorim’s team, with the manager keen to work with the player to help him improve further.
“We had a meeting with him, he said to me… he tried to help me with what I can improve,” Amad recently explained.
“Like when I play right wingback, what I have to improve in defence. And when I play number ten, what I have to improve in attack, you know.
“He’s trying to help everyone but in the same moment, he is here to win and we know that. We want to win also, we will follow him and let’s see what we can achieve.”
