What Jadon Sancho thinks about Manchester United return following Chelsea’s fresh loan decision

What Jadon Sancho thinks about his potential return to Manchester United has been explained following Chelsea’s fresh decision surrounding the player’s future.

In the final days of the 2024 summer transfer window, Jadon Sancho departed Manchester United to join Chelsea on a season-long loan.

A subsequent agreement between the two clubs confirmed that Chelsea would pay £25 million to sign the winger permanently in the upcoming summer.

Sancho had fallen out of favour under Erik ten Hag the previous season and was loaned to Borussia Dortmund. Although he returned to United’s squad in July 2024, his prospects at the club remained limited.

Since arriving at Chelsea, Sancho has featured 29 times, scoring twice and providing six assists, with three of these coming in his opening few appearances.

What Sancho thinks about United return

Although many have thought that, due to Chelsea’s £25 million obligation, it was a given he would remain at the club next season, this was thrown into doubt after it was revealed Chelsea could pay a penalty to get out of the clause.

Later, The Athletic revealed that the fee for termination of his loan sits at around £5 million, and after Sancho’s underwhelming displays and the relative cheapness of the penalty compared to the £25 million fee, there is serious consideration that Chelsea may pay this.

Sancho returning to United would be an embarrassment for all parties involved, considering the broken relationship the player has with fans at Old Trafford.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that, faced with the prospect of returning to United. the player himself would be happy to instead stay at Chelsea.

Chelsea still expected to retain Sancho next season

Despite the flurry of theories surrounding Chelsea’s potential axing of the Sancho transfer in the 2025 summer window, it seems a deal will still go through.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea are still expected to pay the £25 million fee for Sancho this summer despite the get-out clause they have the option to trigger.

This will be great news for United. The Old Trafford club are desperately searching for transfer funds to hand Rúben Amorim this summer, and receiving £25 million on the books would be fantastic business.

They are also expected to sell Antony, Marcus Rashford, and Tyrell Malacia in the coming months, with a search for a new club for Casemiro also on the agenda at United. This could raise upwards of a futher £80 million.

Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelöf, Jonny Evans, and Tom Heaton are all expected to depart once their contracts expire at the end of June, saving almost £2 million a month in wages.
