What insiders said about JJ Gabriel in first-team training as Bruno Fernandes’ recent actions revealed

Bruno Fernandes has been integral in helping Manchester United starlet JJ Gabriel integrate into several first-team training sessions under Rúben Amorim.

JJ Gabriel is one of the most talked-about Academy stars at Manchester United right now, with his recent performance in the FA Youth Cup another example of his storming start to life with the U18s.

Despite playing against players three years his senior, the English talent scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Peterborough’s U18S while simultaneously becoming the club’s youngest-ever player to compete in the famed competition.

The FA Youth Cup has produced many of United’s top talents over the decades, with the likes of David Beckham, Paul Pogba, Kobbie Mainoo, and Alejandro Garnacho displaying early glimpses of what they could become in the competition.

Gabriel has scored ten goals in 11 appearances under U18S boss and former United midfielder Darren Fletcher this season, including a hat-trick during a 7-0 win over Liveprool’s U18s late last month.

Fernandes has been helping Gabriel in training

As detailed by The Athletic, the 15-year-old has already been involved in several first-team training sessions this season, with United releasing official photos of the young star alongside Shea Lacey, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, and others.

According to the report, Bruno Fernandes is one player who has been particularly helpful with the Academy forward, often using his name during sessions and has been “especially welcoming” to Gabriel.

This is no surprise, considering that Fernadnes has a track record of helping young talents in first-team training, as was on display with Lacey in the summer.

Further, it’s noted that insiders feel Gabriel has so far managed to hold his own well among the senior group due to his tight control and ability to play with both feet.

Could Gabriel make a senior squad this season?

Gabriel is too young to make his debut for Amorim’s senior side in the Premier League this season, as although he is 15, like Arsenal’s Max Dowman, he was 14 as the season started, which is below the minimum age requirement.

However, there is no explicit rule barring the teen from being included in the matchday squad for the FA Cup, as United do not enter until the third round in January.

In theory, Gabriel is available for selection in the competition. However, as United face fellow Premier League Brighton in the third round, it’s unlikely the youngster will be involved in the squad.

But, if United are to progress past the Seagulls and draw a lower-league team later in the tournament, there is a chance he could make his senior debut.
