Alejandro Garnacho’s summer exit from Manchester United looks inevitable and Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has already spoken about the prospect of signing the player.
Manchester United’s Premier League season can be called nothing less than a complete disaster, with the club having the possibility of finishing 17th if they lose to Aston Villa on the weekend.
Ruben Amorim’s tall task of a near complete rebuild this summer has been widely reported on, with it looking like no player is safe from a potential exit in the summer.
Having previously been linked with moves to both Napoli and Chelsea, Alejandro Garnacho looks like the latest player to join the long list of potential summer departures after reports emerged which claimed Amorim has told him to find a new club.
The Argentinian is alongside the likes of Casemiro, Andre Onana, Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof who are all confirmed or rumoured to be leaving United in the summer.
Enzo Maresca’s response to a potential move
United are not the only club that are faced with a mass exodus of players this summer. Chelsea have a number of forwards that are likely to leave, including Joao Felix, Christopher Nkunku, while Mykhailo Mudryk has received a doping ban.
This could change Enzo Maresca’s stance on signing Garnacho, as earlier this season he suggested that he was happy with the depth at Stamford Bridge.
When quizzed on a potential move for the United winger during the January transfer window, Maresca said: “I’m happy with what we have at this moment.
“I said many times, on the right side it’s Pedro [Neto] and Noni [Madueke], left side Jadon [Sancho] and Misha [Mudryk] was with us, now he’s not with us. Tyrique [George] is the profile that can help us. In this moment we are okay.”
With Chelsea looking ever more likely not to make Sancho’s move permanent and Mudryk’s situation still not resolved, Chelsea could end up trying to fill that space with Garnacho.
If the West London side were to make a move for the 20-year-old, they would have to cough up a sizeable fee, with United looking for £50 million pound for any potential move for one of their most prized assets.
What is United’s strategy going into a crucial summer window?
United’s defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final has cast doubt over their pursuit of Ipswich striker Liam Delap. Without the lure of European football, it’s unclear whether Delap would be interested in a move to Old Trafford.
The loss could hinder United’s ability to attract top-tier talent, complicating their recruitment efforts this summer. Missing out on Champions League qualification poses a significant challenge to the club’s ambitions.
Despite the setback, there are still reasons for optimism. According to Fabrizio Romano, United are targeting two attacking midfielders, with Lyon’s Rayan Cherki being one of the players identified as a key option. His arrival could provide a creative spark to the squad.
In addition, United are expected to finalise the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, potentially bolstering their attacking depth. As the club adjusts to these new circumstances, fans will be watching closely to see how management navigates the transfer window.
