Benjamin Sesko is the preferred striker target at Manchester United and the club have submitted their opening bid to RB Leipzig for the player.
Manchester United have reportedly made RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko their top target to bolster the centre-forward position this summer.
Following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego Leon, United are now fully focused on recruiting a natural striker.
Despite Bruno Fernandes finishing last season as the club’s leading scorer with 19 goals across all competitions, only three other players reached double figures; underlining the urgent need for a dependable and consistent goal-scorer.
Ruben Amorim has made the signing of a central striker a key priority ahead of the new season, with Sesko emerging as the frontrunner. However, United face competition for his signature, with Newcastle United also showing strong interest in the 22-year-old.
Sesko, who has long been on United’s radar, impressed with 21 goals in all competitions for RB Leipzig during the 2024/25 campaign.
What Sesko did after United submitted £73m bid
After Newcastle tabled two bids for Sesko, United have also formally submitted their first offer to the Bundesliga club for the striker.
According to German outlet BILD, United placed an offer worth £73.9 million on Tuesday morning for the player. It was not explained whether there has been a response.
Previous reports indicated that United would only submit an offer if they were confident that Sesko wanted to join the club.
BILD added that Sesko was not in team training with Leipzig on Tuesday after United’s bid was submitted and is working individually due to his transfer situation.
Considering Leipzig’s season begins in less than two weeks and they will want to bring a replacement in, this deal could be finished soon with Sesko.
Sesko situation different to Højlund
The price tag for the striker is certainly on the heavier side and many fans are against the idea of spending so much on another unproven attacker.
Sesko, however, remains a different case to when Rasmus Højlund joined the club. He has much more experience than the Dane in first-team football.
More importantly, however, the Reds have a better attacking unit to help Sesko if he joins the club, with Cunha and Mbeumo being crucial to this.

The main concern for many is whether the midfield will also be addressed in the final weeks of the window if this much is spent on a striker.
United could still make movements in that position but it seems like they will need to finally make some sales before the deadline.
