Antony is among the players Manchester United are trying to sell this summer and Real Betis remain interested in keeping him in Spain.
Manchester United decided to loan out Antony during the January transfer window last season, as his role under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford had diminished considerably.
The Brazilian winger made the switch to Spanish side Real Betis, where he has impressively rediscovered his form. In 26 appearances, the 25-year-old registered nine goals and five assists.
Antony also played a key role in Betis’ Europa Conference League campaign, tallying four goals and three assists on their journey to the final—though they ultimately fell short against Chelsea.
His resurgence in Spain has been a positive development for United, who are now exploring a permanent transfer this summer. Meanwhile, Betis are keen to retain him and are working on a solution to keep him at the club.
What Antony said about future
Antony spoke after Betis’ defeat to Chelsea in the Europa Conference League final and admitted that he was unsure on his future despite having “a lot of affection” for the Spanish club.
“I don’t know what will happen in the future; only God knows. My work is playing, and I’m doing that well,” the Brazilian said at the time.
“I have a lot of affection for Betis, for everyone, but I have a contract with Man United and I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
“Now I will go to the national team and then on holiday, then we will see what happens in the future. I’m very happy here, everyone knows that, but I have a contract.”
The Brazilian winger still has a deal which lasts until June 2027 at Old Trafford.
Real Betis moves relies on one key change
It is becoming clear that a permanent deal is not something Betis can commit to, even though they have been able to generate cash from sales recently.
That is why talks have stalled, with reports from Spain suggesting there has been no movement regarding the deal in recent weeks.
It has been explained that the La Liga outfit are willing to include an obligation to buy in a loan deal, which could be attractive to United.
However, the reports stressed that Antony will need to lower his demands, or for United to subsidise those wages, in order for them to submit an offer.
Previous reports have suggested that the Brazilian was willing to take a significant pay-cut to facilitate a move away from United.
