Wes Brown explains two reasons why Man United star was clear MOTM vs Brentford
Wes Brown has explained two reasons why one Manchester United star was the clear Man of the Match against Brentford on Saturday.
The Reds secured a 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon against Brentford after going behind at the end of the first-half.
Second-half strikes from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Højlund secured an important three points for Erik ten Hag‘s side.
There were several standout performances on the day, with Jonny Evans receiving praise for his efforts at the back.
Marcus Rashford, Garnacho and Højlund also stood out in the attacking third – with the Argentine goalscorer receiving the club’s Player of the Match award after the game.
Wes Brown explains Garnacho MOTM performance
Former United defender Wes Brown agreed with the fan-voted verdict of Garnacho being the Man of the Match.
Brown said that the 20-year-old winger ‘stepped up’ in a pressured situation for the team by scoring the equaliser.
Garnacho’s defensive efforts were also praised by the former Red. The wide-man won all three of his attempted tackles and also made two interceptions.
“Garnacho was Man of the Match for me,” Brown said on MUTV. “We came out with fire [in the second half], they knew they didn’t deserve to be 1-0 down.
“Listen, there was a lot of pressure on the team this afternoon and he was one who stepped up and he just wanted to play his game.
“He got us the goal that we needed to get back into it.
“He’s still young, he can run and I think he’s learned to do the defensive side very well. It takes a lot of energy and hard work but he’s definitely there and willing to do it.”
Garnacho has now scored 20 goals for United since his debut at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.
With five goals and three assists so far this season, the winger will be eager to build on his positive form in the coming weeks and months.
