Ruben Amorim has been speaking about the potential of Manchester United making signings during the January transfer window.
Manchester United appear to be finding their rhythm this season after a shaky start, with the club’s new signings beginning to impress in the Premier League.
During the summer transfer window, United strengthened their attack by bringing in three new forwards in Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
The Reds also secured goalkeeper Senne Lammens on deadline day, though many supporters were left disappointed by the club’s failure to sign a defensive midfielder.
With the January transfer window creeping closer, Ruben Amorim’s side may look to further strengthen their squad before the end of the campaign.
Amorim makes surprise claim about United’s January plans
Speaking ahead of United’s away clash with Nottingham Forest, Amorim was asked about the club’s plans for the January window and whether the Reds would try to sign a midfielder. “I don’t know what is going to happen,” he stated.
“A lot of things can happen,” he continued when pushed again on the topic. “Even in our club, and you know that we have World Cup, some players are not playing, they will ask to leave, so I have to manage everything.
“And then we want to bring players, everyone here, we want to bring players that we can see a big future in Manchester United. We are not just buying one guy, because now we feel in December that we need this kind of player for now.
“No, it’s going to be… We want to buy players that we know we are not going to change a lot of times. So that is our idea.
“So I don’t know what is going to happen, but of course, we think about how we can improve the team, and in January, the window is open, we can do something.”
United unlikely to make any panic signings
While the Portuguese boss made it clear that United will only target the right players, he also hinted that signings in January could be made if they fit into the club’s plans.
Last season saw the Reds bring in Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven during the mid-season window, and United have not been shy of a mid-season loan deal before either.
But with the club only in two competitions, it does seem less likely that any panic moves are made. If a top midfielder can be signed early, then that might be the move that United make.
