“We are sure”: Casemiro heaps praise on Man United star despite FA Cup final loss
Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has heaped praise on his teammate Alejandro Garnacho following the FA Cup final loss against Manchester City.
United were beaten by their bitter rivals at Wembley on Saturday as İlkay Gündoğan scored twice to secure victory for Pep Guardiola’s men.
However, The Reds came ever-so-close to equalising late on as substitute Garnacho had his curling shot fly just wide of the far post with only a few minutes to spare.
He did not start the game but after coming from the bench on 62 minutes, Garnacho was the most dangerous player on the pitch. He created numerous opportunities for his side against the best team in Europe.
It was not the first time Garnacho had stunned City. Last time out his contributions turned to goals as he assisted Marcus Rashford’s winner at Old Trafford. This time round it was not to be, but he remains a top talent.
Casemiro knows all about working alongside talented forward players from his time at Real Madrid, but even he has high expectations of his teammate, claiming Garnacho can be a great at United for the next decade.
“Recently he has renewed with the club, he is a player for whom the club contributes a lot,” he told Argentine newspaper El Destape after the final. “He has the affection of us as players, but we also have to be careful because in the end he is 18 years old.
“You have to go calmly so as not to burn stages. We know that he is a great player, but he’s also great for the next 10 years at Manchester United, we’re sure he’s going to be a great player here and he’s becoming very important to us.”
Garnacho scored five goals and registered five assists throughout his breakthrough season at Old Trafford. He won the Jimmy Murphy Player of the Season award the season prior as he won the FA Youth Cup with the under-18s side, scoring twice in the final against Nottingham Forest at the Theatre of Dreams.
