Manchester United progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday evening following a 3-1 victory against Everton and Erik ten Hag believes the squad has what it takes to win the club’s first trophy since 2017.

Marcus Rashford starred in the Old Trafford encounter, scoring once and setting up United’s other two goals. He could be key to The Reds having a positive season.

Ten Hag’s side have won their last seven games and look to be in fine form as they enter the business end of the campaign.

Manchester City and Arsenal are up next in the Premier League after United face Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup quarter-final. Barcelona in the Europa League knock-outs come in the following month.

The second-tier European competition was the last that the Old Trafford club had won. Under Jose Mourinho in 2017.

“I know Manchester United are always aiming for trophies and we are going for that,” Ten Hag told BBC following the FA Cup win. “We cannot force this and have to focus on the next game, not focus on trophies, that is far away. We have to work on the team and development.”

Despite suggesting that fans should not get carried away, Ten Hag also showed the belief that he has in his squad to change the club’s recent fortunes around.

“I think we will have that,” he replied when asked if the squad ‘are equipped’ to winning silverware. “We can fight and fight back if necessary. We can act and stay composed so we have resilience. We have good skills in the team to win games and win prizes.”
