Wayne Rooney SLAMS Man United squad, agreeing with three INEOS transfer decisions
Wayne Rooney has slammed the Manchester United squad after discussing the changes INEOS need to make in the summer transfer window.
The Reds won 3-2 against Newcastle United on Wednesday evening, thanks to goals from Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo, and Rasmus Højlund.
Following the game, the Sky Sports studio debated which players should leave the club during the rebuild under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS.
United’s all-time leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney made a harsh assessment of the situation, which can be considered fair with United currently eighth in the Premier League table and lightyears away from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City.
The 37-year-old believes that Bruno Fernandes and some of the young talent such as Mainoo and Garnacho should stay at the club, but the rest of the squad should slowly be phased out of Old Trafford.
“You have to build the team around Bruno, he’s the one player with quality, and then keep the young players. Then get rid of the rest. It has to be a massive clearout over the next couple of years,” he claimed.
“They need better players to compete in this league, to compete with Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, they need better players.”
This appears to fall in line with reports that INEOS are willing to listen to offers for the majority of the playing squad barring the talented youth already mentioned.
The summer transfer window officially opens for English clubs on Friday, June 14, the same day when the European Championships begin.
