Viktor Gyökeres produces Man Utd U-turn after private conversation with Ruben Amorim revealed

Sporting star Viktor Gyökeres remains a target of Manchester United and has seemingly produced a U-turn on his transfer stance after conversations with Ruben Amorim were revealed.

After a disappointing season, Manchester United are moving swiftly in the transfer market as they look to rebuild ahead of the new campaign.

Ruben Amorim has already secured his first signing with the arrival of Matheus Cunha, and attention has now turned to Bryan Mbeumo, who is keen on making the switch to Old Trafford. Talks with Brentford are expected to begin this week.

United are also actively searching for a new striker, with several candidates under consideration. Securing all three targets would provide a major boost to an attack that struggled for consistency last season.

Having missed out on their top choice, Liam Delap, it remains to be seen who the club will target next, though there are still plenty of proven goalscorers available in the market.

Gyökeres produces United U-turn

Since Amorim arrived at Old Trafford, it felt inevitable that the club would try and sign his star striker from Sporting, Viktor Gyökeres, this summer. The Swedish striker produced an unbelievable campaign, with 54 goals and 13 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions.

However, reports from a couple of months ago detailed that Gyökeres had spoken privately with Amorim and explained how he would be more inclined to join United if they qualified for the Champions League.

Of course, that did not happen as United finished 15th in the Premier League table and lost out against Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the Europa League.

Yet, the latest reports from Ben Jacobs have revealed that Gyökeres is in fact still ‘very keen’ on a move to Old Trafford to reunite with his former manager.

It was explained that the 27-year-old has had a change in stance and does not see Champions League football as the be-all and end-all in deciding a club for next season.

This leaves United with a clear opportunity to get the goalscoring machine at the club although sales will be needed in order to make that happen.

Garnacho sale key for Gyökeres signing

United have already spent £62.5 million on Cunha while they are also preparing to spend around £60 million on signing Mbeumo. That leaves them with no cash to sign more players until sales are made.

The signing of Gyökeres or any other striker will likely have to wait until Alejandro Garnacho leaves the club after the Argentine was told to leave by Amorim.

Several other players, such as Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho, are all up for sale as well but they will be harder to get off the books.

Garnacho, on the other hand, could be sold sooner as he is certainly a desirable player for many clubs, including Chelsea and Napoli.

Once that deal is over the line, we will likely learn more about United and Gyökeres; and whether he ends up joining the club or not.
