VIDEO: Mason Mount announces Chelsea departure ahead of Man United announcement
Mason Mount has announced his departure from boyhood club Chelsea following the completion of his Manchester United medical.
Mount, 24, is swapping west London for Manchester as he will become the ninth player to play for both clubs during the Premier League era.
A deal worth £60 million was agreed upon between United and Chelsea last week and Mount visited Carrington on Monday to complete his medical tests and has since signed the contract at Old Trafford.
The England international risen through the Chelsea youth system and was a key player in the 2021 Champions League winning side.
He took to social media platform Instagram to announce that he will be leaving Stamford Bridge.
“Hi Chelsea fans, given the speculation over the last six months this may not come as a surprise to you, but it doesn’t make it any easier to tell you that I’ve made the decision to leave Chelsea,” he began in the video.
“I feel you deserve more than just a written statement so I wanted to tell your directly how grateful I’ve been for your all of your support over the last 18 years.
“I know some of you wont he happy with my decision but it’s what right for me at this moment in my career.”
The midfielder went onto thank a host of different departments and staff members from his former club. The full video can be viewed below.
Manchester United’s announcement is expected on Wednesday morning, as per Fabrizio Romano, ahead of the club’s pre-season tour.
