Victor Lindelöf has broken his silence on his Manchester United future and the relationship he holds with the club’s new head coach, Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelöf has entered the final year of his contract at the English club.

Lindelöf, 30, joined the club during Jose Mourinho’s tenure in the summer of 2017 from Benfica. He has since made 266 appearances for the team.

In recent years, the Swede”s role in the defence at Old Trafford has become rather limited, with just 28 Premier League starts since the beginning of 2022/23 – with some of those coming at fullback.

With his contract running out in the summer, many are anticipating that Lindelöf departs the club once the season finishes.

Recent reports have claimed that former teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic will try and sign the defender at AC Milan on a free deal.

However, while Lindelöf understands that there will always be rumours due to his expiring deal, he is not focusing on his future beyond this season at the moment.

“This is not something I think about,” he explained, as per Sport Witness, when asked about the rumours surrounding his future.

“My focus has been to come back from the injury and play football again. But of course, there will be writings now what will happen when I am in my last year.

“My goal is always to help the team. Now I have come back, made 90 minutes at United which has been very nice. It’s a different situation for me now.”

He will be hoping that his latest setback, coming off injured during an international game for Sweden, will not be a serious issue ahead of the Premier League’s return next weekend.

Lindelöf’s likely final months at Old Trafford will be under new head coach Ruben Amorim, who the 30-year-old knows more than most of his teammates.

The Swedish centre-back played alongside Amorim during his playing career, with the pair crossing paths at Benfica.

Despite being former teammates, Lindelöf has admitted that he was not particularly close with Amorim outside of the pitch, but is looking forward to meeting him again when he returns from international duty.

“I was young at the time, and we didn’t have a relationship outside of football, but I’ve heard great things about him as a coach,” he added.

“It will be great to meet him again. It’s been many years since we played together.”
