“At all costs…” – Zlatan Ibrahimovic responds to AC Milan rumours surrounding Manchester United star
AC Milan’s advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic has responded to rumours surrounding a potential deal for one Manchester United player.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic spent two years at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho where he won the Carabao Cup and Europa League titles.
The iconic forward is remembered fondly at Old Trafford and has since ended his playing career, with his final season being in 2022/23 with AC Milan.
Since then, the Swedish legend has moved into an advisory role for the Italian club, where he helps with their transfer dealings, among other things.
Previous reports have linked United defender Victor Lindelöf with a switch to Milan, with Ibrahimovic having played with the centre-back for United and Sweden.
Lindelöf’s contract at Old Trafford runs out in June 2025 and the anticipation is that he will leave the club after eight years of service.
A report last month claimed that Ibrahimovic wanted to sign the 30-year-old for Milan ‘at all costs’ and the 43-year-old has since addressed the links.
“There are a lot of rumours going around. That rumour is more because I’m Swedish, and Lindelöf is Swedish. He’s a fantastic player. I think he’s doing well at United,” he said, as per Sports Witness.
“We have many good players in that position. I don’t know what he wants. I think you have to ask him. If we are there? You never know.”
Asked further what he wants, Ibrahimović explained: “We want a lot. And we’re working for it.”
Lindelöf has started just three games for United so far this season. He was nursing an injury at the beginning of the campaign but will likely want to play more football going forward.
While new head coach Ruben Amorim is set to play with three centre-backs in his 3-4-3 formation, Lindelöf’s role in the team will likely remain as a bit-part player while the Portuguese boss finds solutions elsewhere.
Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Lisandro Martínez would all be ahead of him in the pecking order and reports state that United remain interested in signing more defenders, with Jarrad Branthwaite a likely target.
