“Unbelievable” star ‘expected to revive’ Man Utd transfer talks as Casemiro ‘decides’ not to extend current contract

Manchester United are reportedly expected to revive talks with one of their 2025 summer targets amid a claim that Casemiro will not be extending his contract.

Manchester United expanded Rúben Amorim’s squad with four key additions in the summer transfer window.

Benjamin Šeško, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha were brought in to strengthen the forward line, while Senne Lammens arrived to improve the goalkeeping options and has already established himself as United’s first-choice.

Despite an outlay exceeding £200 million, several shortcomings remain, and the club have already begun planning ahead for next summer.

The midfield is still the most concerning area, with long-standing issues once again left unresolved. Kobbie Mainoo wants to leave on loan to gain valuable minutes, while Manuel Ugarte has failed to impress, and Casemiro’s contract runs out in June 2026.

Casemiro decides not to extend contract

Casemiro’s time at Old Trafford has been a rollercoaster. After joining as a 30-year-old for a £60 million fee from Real Madrid, his first season was incredible. He scored the opening goal in the Carabao Cup final and guided his side to a third-placed Premier League finish.

However, his form stumbled after that, and once Amorim joined, he seemed destined to leave the club. But, one year later, he has become integral to United’s current system during the final year of his current deal.

According to Brazilian outlet Trivela, the 33-year-old has already decided against extending his contract beyond the end of the 2025/26 campaign, although he has no plans to leave in January.

After rejecting multiple offers from the Saudi Pro League last summer, Casemiro wanted to stay and fight with United for the remaining season, but decided that this would be his final campaign in Red before becoming a free agent in the summer.

Reignited contacts for Ederson expected

If Casemiro were to leave the club at the end of the season, Trivela also reports that the club would trigger a reignition of talks with Atalanta midfielder Ederson in the summer market. United reportedly tried to sign the ‘unbelievable’ player last summer.

Although English reports do not include the player on United’s seven-player target list for the midfield position, the Brazilian report suggests that United have maintained frequent contact with the 26-year-old’s entourage, and that talks are expected to be revived after a failed bid last summer.

Ederson’s current Atalanta deal expires in 2027, and he is not expected to renew, meaning the Serie A side have to sell him in the summer in a deal that could be worth as little as £26 million.

United are painted as a ‘likely’ destination for the Brazilian international, although the Old Trafford side are just one of many clubs being spoken to by his representatives ahead of the summer market.
