Unai Emery has handed Aston Villa an injury blow as the Birmingham club prepare to welcome Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United are preparing to return to Premier League action with an away fixture against Aston Villa, which will be their seventh league game of the season.

Under Erik ten Hag’s management, the team has struggled, winning only three of their ten matches to date. Their latest performance saw them throw away a 2-0 lead against FC Porto, requiring a last-minute header from Harry Maguire to salvage a 3-3 draw.

Currently, United sit in 13th place in the league table, while Aston Villa is enjoying a strong season under Unai Emery, sitting in 5th place and just two points behind league leaders Liverpool.

In their last match, Aston Villa secured a 1-0 victory against Bayern Munich in the Champions League with a stunning goal from substitute Jhon Duran.

Following their historic result on Wednesday evening, Emery confirmed that duo Leon Bailey and Jacob Ramsey are both doubts for the upcoming fixture.

“Both are now doubts,” Emery explained after the winger and the midfielder were subbed off with problems on Wednesday.

“I don’t know if they will be available on Sunday. [If will be] so, so tight [to see] if they are available on Sunday. We will need every player.

“Tomorrow (Thursday), we are going to train, but today they are doubtful.”

Further, Emery confirmed that new £50 million signing Amadou Onana, who was a target for United in the summer, was also a risk, but he reckoned that the Belgian international may be able to make the bench.

“He is a doubt, but I think he will be available because it is not a really serious injury,” Emery confrimed.

“But, playing matches during the week and on the weekends, we have to be clinical in our decisions for the next match.

“Even last year when we played in the Conference [League], I have to identify as well – if I can – some changes [that need to be made and figuring out] better moments for other players who are ready to play.”
