Tyrell Malacia receives huge boost as Dutch outlet makes “matter of time” claim about Man Utd loanee
Tyrell Malacia departed Manchester United on loan in the January transfer window and joined Dutch club PSV Eindhoven for the remainder of the season.
Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia was unavailable for almost 18 months with a serious knee injury which took multiple surgeries to heal.
The 25-year-old was signed at Old Trafford in the summer of 2022 and played an important role in his first season with the club.
Malacia was a solid understudy to Luke Shaw and stepped into the team when needed, but his long-term injury hugely impacted his game.
Since his return earlier this season, it quickly became clear that Malacia was not at the standard new head coach Ruben Amorim needed.
The defender didn’t really fit the wingback role in United’s new system and the most important thing for him was to get regular game-time.
Malacia makes impact in PSV Champions League win
The decision was made to send Malacia on loan to PSV Eindhoven, causing some controversy since he was a graduate of the Feyenoord academy.
However, after making his debut Willem II towards the beginning of February, playing 78 minutes, Malacia was an unused substitute in the following two games.
Peter Bosz preferred Mauro Junior and Richard Ledezma at full-back in a defeat against Juventus in the Champions League and a 2-2 draw versus FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie.
The defensive pair once again started for PSV in their second-leg Champions League clash against Juventus, but Malacia came off the bench for Ledezma and made a positive impact.
After losing 2-1 in the away leg, the Dutch side matched that scoreline to send the game to extra time, which also allowed Malacia to get more minutes in his legs after coming on in the 78th minute.
PSV then stunned the Italians when Ryan Flamingo scored the winning goal in the first half of extra-time to secure their place in the round-of-16.
Malacia sent message from Dutch media
After the game, Dutch media praised the impact of Malacia off the bench and one outlet even claimed that it is ‘a matter of time” until the United loanee secures his place in the starting eleven.

Voetbal Primeur rated Malacia at 7 out of 10 and provided a huge boost for the player, backing him to displace starting fullback Ledezma soon.
“Came on after 78 minutes. It seems only a matter of time before he pushes Ledezma to the bench,” they wrote.
Antony and Marcus Rashford have started their loan moves positively and it seems like Malacia is also taking steps in the right direction.
