Tyrell Malacia has broken his silence on his loan move from Manchester United to PSV Eindhoven, as a buy option is included in his January contract.

Tyrell Malacia’s time at Manchester United has been a tough one to endure after he joined Erik ten Hag’s side in 2022 for around £13 million as a backup option to Luke Shaw.

Although the Netherlands international enjoyed 39 appearances in his opening campaign, but he was suffering from a knee problem towards the end and underwent surgery to fix the issue ahead of pre-season.

However, the ordeal that followed saw the player end up out of action for around 17 months, with the player having to undergo further surgeries.

He then returned to action in December 2024 but has struggled to secure game time under Rúben Amorim and has now headed on loan to PSV Eindhoven for the remainder of the season.

What Malacia said about his PSV loan

Malacia has now broken his silence on his loan move, explaining that he is happy to finally be able to play football again after being in and out of the United team and subject to his long-term injury.

“I’m happy to be here. Finally playing good football again,” Malacia told PSV club media. “I am coming off a long injury, but by now I am fit and know that my time will come again.

“In every tough period there are also positive elements and in this case that is that I have become much stronger physically and mentally.

“I have more patience, am more mature, know my body better and things like that. I’m ready to pop and hopefully win several prizes with PSV.”

PSV’s director of football added on the transfer: “We are very happy to welcome with Tyrell a player who can be of immediate value for PSV. Tyrell has a lot of experience at the highest level and is also a player with a lot of potential. We look forward to seeing him in action.”

Could Malacia leave United this summer?

There is a very real chance that Malacia has already played his final game for United.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United and PSV have agreed on an £8.3 million buy-clause in Malacia’s loan contract should the Dutch club want to sign him in the summer window.

PSV are said to be covering the 25-year-old’s entire wage, which is said to sit at around £80,000 a week, which means United have knocked even more salary costs off their books this season.

Malacia follows Marcus Rashford and Antony out of the Carrington doors on loan, meaning United will be saving in excess of £500,000 a week in wages for the remainder of the season as they look to build funds for the summer window.
