Manchester United are reportedly plotting a swoop for Southampton youngster Tyler Dibling if they manage to win the Europa League this season.
Ruben Amorim has made no secret of the fact that Manchester United are in desperate need of a busy summer transfer window. They have had a mixed season under the new gaffer and are crying out for some new talent to be brought in, especially in attack.
If the club were to be successful in the Europa League this season, then they would be given access to next season’s Champions League and the roughly £80 million in prize money granted to its participants.
This influx of cash would mean the club can splash out a bit more than previously imagined, with ESPN reporting that Southampton youngster Tyler Dibling is one such target that United will step up their interest in.
The 19-year-old has attracted interest from a number of top clubs, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City and Bayern Munich.
This all comes whilst playing for an already relegated Southampton side who are on course to become the worst Premier League side ever if they fail to beat Derby County’s record of 11 points in a season, which they are one point away from matching.
Dibling’s depends on European success
Of course, whether Dibling is able to be acquired by United hinges on their success in Europe this season, with the starlet’s £100 million price tag being unachievable should European football not be on the cards next season.
Should Amorim’s European dreams end up out of reach, they do have a back-up plan which comes in the form of another young Premier League prospect, Ipswich’s Liam Delap.
As reported by MailSport, the Red Devils are very keen to recruit the 22-year-old Ex-Man City forward, with the striker’s release clause set to be around £40 million should Ipswich get relegated this season.
It’s understood that the Englishman is their firm favourite, ahead of stars such as Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Victor Gyokeres.
A sign of European success
United did the seemingly impossible last night, overcoming a two-goal deficit against Lyon in extra time, scoring three goals in six minutes to beat the French team 7-6 on aggregate.
This progressed them into the semi-finals of the competition, meaning United are now only three games away from being crowned winners of the competition.
In order for that to happen, though, they still need to beat off some stiff competition, with Athletic Club being their next opponents, and a likely final opponent coming in the form of Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
If United do win the competition, fans will be hoping it is the start of a new era of success under Amorim, with the Portuguese manager setting his sights on reinstating the Red Devils as a top competitor in European and domestic football.
