There seem to be two main reasons why Manchester United are not planning to sign Victor Osimhen to bolster their underperforming frontline.
It’s no surprise that Manchester United are prioritising the signing of a striker ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
Ruben Amorim’s side has struggled in front of goal this season, with both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Højlund managing just three Premier League goals each.
The club is already laying the groundwork for summer business and has identified several forward options and Liam Delap is the priority target.
Victor Osimhen is another name who has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, however, recent reports from David Ornstein revealed that the Reds will not be making a move for the Nigerian international.
Why United aren’t planning Osimhen deal
For many fans, Osimhen seems to be the perfect signing for United as he offers guaranteed goals and also has the experience to deal with the pressure of being the main striker at the club.
Some have concerns over Delap and whether he will have similar struggles to Højlund, who was not prepared to lead the line for United by himself.
But there are two main reasons why United are not planning to sign the 26-year-old, with David Ornstein citing his wage demands as one of those.
The other, according to the reporter, is due to his character, with most Premier League clubs having the same opinion. His most-likely destination seems to be the Saudi Pro League.
Responding to a question about Osimhen on Ask Ornstein this week, he wrote: “The feeling among most Premier League clubs that have looked into the possibility seems to be that the salary expectations are difficult to meet and he is perhaps not the player/character they are looking for at present.
“The consensus among these teams seems to be that Saudi Arabia could well prove his destination, but let’s see how it pans out. No doubt he is a brilliant goalscorer and those are in short supply!”
Conflicting opinions on Osimhen decision
It isn’t exactly a secret that Osimhen has had some troubles at Napoli despite his goalscoring excellence. That is why they were willing to loan him out and ultimately sell him this summer.
Some will argue that he is a world-class player and they often come with large wage demands and some baggage away from the pitch. Others will point out that these are similar to the deals which haven’t exactly worked out for United in the past.
From the outside, it still feels like the wages are the major sticking point for United, who have to act carefully with their cash this summer.
That is why Delap, who is available for £30 million and will be on much lower wages, is the favoured choice at Old Trafford.
But we certainly do not want to be having another conversation about strikers in 12 months time if it becomes apparent that the England youth international cannot deal with the pressure.
