Manchester United’s forward line have been misfiring under Erik ten Hag so far during the 2023/24 Premier League campaign.

The two results this season have seen Manchester United scrape past Wolverhampton Wanderers thanks to a Raphaël Varane header during a 1-0 victory, before being completely demolished in a 2-0 loss against Tottenham Hotspur five days later.

Across these ties, Erik ten Hag‘s squad created 32 chances, with only top-of-the-table Brighton creating more (38), but the lack of goals that have spawned from this is alarming.

Speaking to bettingexpert, former United defender Mikaël Silvestre has explained that he believes two players – Facundo Pellsitri and Amad Diallo, can take advantage of this poor form and establish themselves within the squad.

“If you look at it, there are two players for each position except the centre-forward unless Anthony Martial continues to play for Manchester United.

“Garnacho is clearly a very good option, and he started last night (vs Tottenham), but for Pellistri and Diallo, they have to step up and show their worth.

“They will have the opportunities to do that and step up behind Antony, behind Rashford, and they need to take those chances.

“Yeah, if Amad Diallo can bring his Championship form, it is great, but he also played in the Serie A for Atalanta before coming to United, so he knows what the level is. It is intense for sure, he has top defenders to go against in 1v1s, but he’s a good player.

“Same as Garnacho; if Garnacho can do it, I think Diallo can also break through and add value to the front line.”

Amad, of course, is currently injured with an ankle problem, with no expected return date. However, with United unlikely to sign another attacker this window, his chance will almost certainly be there once he returns to Old Trafford.
