Two Man Utd starlets send important messages to Erik ten Hag, he’s planning to integrate them both
Two Manchester United starlets have sent important messages to Erik ten Hag, who is reportedly planning to integrate them both into the first-team squad.
United’s under-21s faced League One side Barnsley, who finished sixth last season, on Tuesday evening in their opening EFL Trophy match of the new campaign.
Despite trailing 2-0 at halftime, the young Reds staged an impressive comeback, winning 3-2 by scoring all their goals in the final 10 minutes.
Central midfielder Jack Fletcher scored twice, including the decisive winner and a potential goal-of-the-season contender, while Harry Amass assisted his first goal.
20-year-old Toby Collyer also played a key role in midfield as the Reds completed their memorable comeback.
According to a report from Manchester World this summer, Erik ten Hag remains a strong admirer of both Fletcher and Collyer.
While 17-year-old Fletcher is currently slightly behind Collyer in the pecking order, he is seen as having equal potential to break into the first-team squad.
Jack, the son of United icon and staff member Darren Fletcher, was included in the club’s pre-season tour but only played in the friendly matches before the squad departed for the United States.
During that time, he continued training with the first team to gain important experience, while the Collyer was given opportunities on the pitch alongside the likes of Casemiro and Mason Mount.
While neither player is expected to be a mainstay in the first-team squad, there is certainly potential involvement for them in the middle of the park for Ten Hag’s side this term.
Both of their solid performances against professional opposition is a great message to send to the Dutch manager, reminding him that they are continuing to improve.
