Two Man United players praised for Chelsea performance despite last-minute defeat
Two Manchester United players were praised for their performances against Chelsea on Thursday evening despite a last-minute defeat in the Premier League clash.
United faced an agonising loss at Stamford Bridge after two late Cole Palmer goals shifted victory to defeat within a couple of minutes.
Erik ten Hag’s side started the game poorly and saw themselves 2-0 down mid-way through the first half.
However, two quickfire goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes equalled the scoring, before Garnacho added his second mid-way through the second half to give the visitors a 3-2 lead.
Ten Hag suffered another loss this term and appears to be walking on thin ice. Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes it is ‘inevitable’ that the Dutchman is sacked.
“I don’t like seeing anyone lose their job but it’s inevitable isn’t it,” Keown tells talkSPORT, as per UnitedInFocus.
“I’m not seeing the progression, the next step. You can’t kid Manchester United fans, saying (they played) magnificent. I think it’s as clear as day that he won’t be there next season.”
Despite the game being filled with disappointment, Keown also believed that two players were deserving of praise in the game.
Garnacho scored a brace that looked to give United the win, but the ex-Arsenal defender focused on the performance from Mason Mount, who appeared from the bench late on.
He also highlighted Antony for praise after his wonderful assist for Garnacho’s second goal, although stressed that it being his first assist of the season is not good enough.
“Only Mason Mount showed any sort of effort, and he’s only been there five minutes,” Keown added. “They are too reliant on individuals.
“They are giving moments, like Antony’s ball. Fantastic. (But) that’s his first assist of the season for goodness sake!”
