Amad Diallo had difficulties when he moved to Manchester United in January 2021 and was helped by two players who have since left the club.

Amad, 21, has been at United for several years now and had his best moment since joining from Atalanta earlier this month when he scored a last-minute winner against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

That moment will be enough for some United fans. No matter what else happens in the young Ivorian’s career, he will always be remembered for scoring one of the club’s most iconic goals against their bitter rivals.

However, Amad will be hoping for more. He is extremely talented and still very young. He was just 18 years of age when he signed under Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

Injuries and competition in the right-wing position have been major factors in Amad’s unfortunate start to life at Old Trafford. He also did not speak English when he first joined.

A new report from The Athletic has detailed the players who helped Amad when he first came to the club. It was stated that French-speaking players Paul Pogba and Eric Bailly went out of their way to take the then-teenager under their wing and help integrate him into the squad.

After he joined United, Amad explained that Pogba was his idol. The young winger ‘didn’t think twice’ about joining the club where the former Juventus midfielder was.

“I met him when I was a kid at that trial at Juventus,” explained Amad when speaking to club media shortly after his move. “After the session, they asked me who I would like to have a photo with, and I asked for Paul. He was my idol!

“Then, when I received the bid from United and I realised that Paul was here, I didn’t have to think twice and I wanted to come here straight away.”

Fast forward to 2024, and Pogba’s career has taken an unfortunate turn. After he left United in 2022, he sustained several injuries before being banned from football for four years for doping. He is attempting to clear his name.

Meanwhile, Eric Bailly plays for Villarreal after a short stint at Beşiktaş last year. He departed United in the summer of last year.
