Manchester United may be boosted by two players returning from injury as they host Brentford at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag‘s squad has been plagued with injury so far this campaign, with the squad seeing up to 11 injuries at one point this season.

Many of these injuries have come in the defensive department, with the Manchester United team currently having four confirmed absentees for the coming fixture against Brentford in the Premier League.

Lisandro Martínez had to undergo a second operation on his foot after his initial injury did not heal correctly, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw, and Tyrell Malacia all remain sidelined.

Despite what many hoped, Ten Hag confirmed on Friday afternoon that Sergio Reguilón also continues to be sidelined, and will not be able to play.

In midfield, United could well be rejoined by academy star Kobbie Mainoo, who has been out with an ankle problem since July.

Mainoo was injured in a pre-season friendly against Real Madrid in the USA but was spotted in full training with the squad on Monday morning, and may included in the matchday squad on the weekend.

In other news, Antony returned to the pitch for the first time in a number of weeks after he was cleared for play as his duties in fighting an ongoing domestic abuse allegation had been fulfilled – Ten Hag has confirmed that he is fit to start.

Casemiro, despite receiving a red card in midweek, is free to play as his ban only covers European matches, while Jadon Sancho is still banned from the squad after his spat with Ten Hag.

For Brentford, star striker Ivan Toney remains suspended for betting violations until 16 January 2024 – but Neal Maupay may be fit enough to start for the Bees.

They have six injury woes for the Old Trafford tie, with Rico Henry, Kevin Schade, Joshua Dasilva, Ben Mee, Mikkel Damsgaard, and Shandon Baptiste all unavailable.
